We were playing this place up near Springfield
about halfway through our set
The crowd was swaying, and we were playing
About as good as we can get
Then this group of people sat right up front
Started holding their hands up to their ears
They were talking to each other, then one came over
and whispered loud enough for the band to hear

Can you turn it down a little? It’s just a little bit too loud
We didn’t come here for the music or the big ol’ noisy crowd
I know you’re in the middle of a song, but waiting two minutes just seemed too long

She said nobody told us this was a live show
(when we paid the cover to get in)
and that we would be sitting in the very first row
(and we don’t want to move again)
and though we all like good music in general
Tonight we’d rather not hear it so very well

Her friend said the sound guy wouldn’t even talk to her
